Carolina Character is the brainchild of Ms. Barnette; it was created to provide educational services and strategic programming, to assist children and students K-12 with their personal, social, career, and character development.

"I can teach someone all day what appropriate character looks like; but until they can experience it for themselves, I am only another voice saying, this is what character should be.  Through Carolina Character I am able to integrate character education through a personal innovative experience which reaches far beyond one moment of learning and into a lifespan of conscious behavioral decisions " -Ms. Adrienne D. Barnette

    CAROLINA CHARACTER
"Character is the most important voice to speak with; it is the one voice that allows us to truly be heard and respected."-Ms. Adrienne D. Barnette

Since 2005, CAROLINA CHARACTER has been providing character educational programming and services throughout the United States of America.  Specifically providing training, entertainment, cultural, and educational experiences for students grades K-12.  CAROLINA CHARACTER has formed previous partnerships/sponsorships with the National Football League teams and players, world-class and Olympic athletes, hospitals, health professionals, universities, the National Basketball Association teams and players, the Minor League Baseball Association players, major recording artists, film producers, models, dancers, and institutions of higher education among many other individuals and corporations to teach appropriate behavioral expectations.  CAROLINA CHARACTER curriculum teaches students how to build a foundation of character traits so that throughout life when they encounter behavioral decisions they will be able to respond as exceptional citizens displaying remarkable and appropriate character.

CAROLINA CHARACTER’s current character educational project is ROUTE 1961, the one road, which has made all other roads possible.  ROUTE 1961 is a road of amazing display of character traits by students; students who by far are American heroes and heroines whom faced unbelievable character decisions.  Doing the right thing was not so simple when the right thing to do meant, risking ones very life!  ROUTE 1961 is a ride to Freedom that 50 years ago, we (black and white people) could not travel together because of segregation. Today we (blacks and whites) can will ride and travel the freedom road because of the character that has gone before and paved the way.

    PURPOSE
"Everyday I ride to work on my Harley-Davidson motorcycle, the kids hang their hands out the windows of the school bus as if revving the motorcycle yelling, VROOM VROOM Ms. Barnette.  This is why I ride, I ride for my students, for their education, for their character development" - Ms. Adrienne Barnette

    Why do I ride?
It is a question many motorcyclists ask themselves.  It is also a question 50 years ago that was asked many Freedom Riders who decided to risk their very lives.  The reason I have chosen to ride ROUTE 1961 is for my students.  Being a counselor, it is imperative to meet the client/student where they are.  My students are drawn to the motorcycle; it engages them everyday, they ask questions about it continuously and they’re always intrigued by the very essence of the machine.  Meeting my clients/students where they are; means using my motorcycle, that enticing intriguing piece of equipment, which grasps their attention more than any book or paper, I have seen.  So it only makes logical educational sense to use my motorcycle as the tool for this character educational lesson.

The purpose of CAROLINA CHARACTER, ROUTE 1961 is to educate, celebrate, inspire, and rejuvenate the spirit of determination and motivation within students of today to become active in their search for their own history and become active in the forming of their future and character.
Recruiting for this project I called Mr. Zachariah Cashion, a long-time friend and motorcyclist.  I introduced him to the idea and he has whole-heartily joined me in my character educational curriculum plan.  Zachariah has an array of travel experiences across continents that touches none other in his field.  His passion and understanding of the 1961 Freedom Riders makes him the obvious choice.  He is a student of people and culture.
